Smik SUP are made by local West Aussie legend Scott McKercher, who has almost 30 years of board design and development.
Smik founder, Scott, is a previous World Wavesailing Champion and initially started with Starboard as a sponsored rider, designer and tester of windsurfing boards. When stand up paddle boarding hit the scene, Scott jumped straight into SUP – as both a designer and tester for Starboard.
In 2017, Scott started his SUP brand. As long as we’ve known him (and that’s a really long time), he’s always been driven to make a better board. And then just continue to improve it each time. We guess that’s why he called it ‘smik’.
With over a decade of SUP riding under his belt, Scotty can hold his own amongst the top Australian SUP surfers. If you’re near good waves in WA, chances are you’ll probably spot Scotty…….just doing a bit of testing.
There’s not many people around with more experience and credentials to design surf SUPs. Anyone who knows owner/designer Scotty McKercher, knows this is what he lives for.
This is designer Scotty McKercher’s ‘go to’ board in the surf because he has so much fun on it. It’s fast, loose and super smooth for rail to rail transition. With MR twinnie inspiration and a wider nose, it lets you go shorter but with extra stability and glide. It can also paddle out to bombie breaks pretty well for its size.
The Spitfire is built to perform as close as possible to shortboard surfing. It’s fast, manoeuvrable, powerful and aptly named after a fighter plane.
The ultimate in longboard surf. With the growing trend in 10′ longboard style riding, this is the board to get if you want to take out the division. In it’s first local competition appearance, the smik Style Lord took out first place.
It’s got a rounded nose and has that classic mal shape. It’s got beautiful refined rails and a domed deck which are great for carving. There’s great balance through the board for nose riding. And the parallel rails help to generate speed so you can make the most of small sections.
This board evolved from the much loved Hipster Twin Fin, rather than a classic longboard shape.
It’s designed to be a longboard that feels a little closer to a shortboard. But don’t worry, you can still nose ride just as well with the larger side fins.
