The Axis Foil Masts are designed for the Axis S-Series (surf/SUP) Foils. The also work with the K-Series foils (kitesurfing).
The AXIS masts are incredibly stiff – possibly the stiffest on the market. This gives you greater control as the front wing reacts immediately to pressure from your feet. They’re made from high quality aluminium and are even stiffer than the carbon masts currently on the market.
The short answer to ‘What mast length do I use?’ is pretty well, the more experienced you are, the longer you go. Longer masts give you more lift. You can carve harder and are less likely to have touchdowns. But they’re harder. Generally you’ll start short and graduate through to longer mast sizes.
Axis Foil Mast 90cm – for experienced foilers. This mast is mainly used for downwind SUP pros competing in ocean races, advanced wind and kite foilers, big wave surf foiling and tow-surf foiling. For downwind SUP foiling, this keeps you above the ocean bumps and your foil in the water. A longer mast reduces your chances of nosediving when flying downwind. If you’re surf foiling but not in big waves, you don’t need a mast this long.
Axis Foil Mast 75cm – a popular all round mast for intermediate to experienced foilers. This is mainly used for downwind SUP foiling, surf foiling in bigger surf, kite foiling (a surfy option) or pumping on the river.
Axis Foil Mast 68cm – another popular option, especially for surf. This is the most common mast length for (prone) surf foiling and all round SUP. If you can already foil, you love waves and you only want to buy one more mast, this is for you. It’ll suit SUP, prone surf and wake foiling.
Axis Foil Mast 60cm – is a popular choice for your first foil if you want to put a few sessions in each week. It’ll be a bit harder to learn on than the 45cm, but if you’re going to put the hours in and you’re not too impatient, you’ll grow into this one pretty fast. You may use this and then progress on to a taller mast for SUP, Surf, Downwind, Wake or Kite.
Axis Foil Mast 45cm – is best suited for your first few sessions of foiling. This will help you learn how to foil faster than the longer masts. But once you’ve mastered the basics of foiling, you will graduate on to the longer foil masts.
A key advantage of AXIS S-Series Foils is that the front wings, rear wings and components are interchangeable. You can keep on adding different size masts, front wings, rear wings or fuselages as you progress. The modular design and stiffness let you use them for a variety of foiling purposes – surf, SUP, downwind or wake.
