The Duotone foil wing is a wind foil that will get you foiling by using the wind rather than a boat or a wave. It can give you a surf foil feeling when you don’t even have waves.
It’s a bit of a cross between windsurfing and kitesurfing. It has a boom but no mast, and it uses a kite but without lines. It feels a bit like kiting or windsurfing with a bit more freedom – you’re not locked in or attached to anything.
On the wind foil, you can foil upwind, crosswind or downwind. It’s also an entry level way to get into downwind foiling.
What makes the Duotone foil wing unique is the use of a solid boom.
- This makes the rig more rigid, more powerful, more stable and more responsive than an inflatable boom. You control your power like a windsurfer sail, by sheeting in or sheeting out.
- It’s also adjustable so you can use it with multiple foil wing sizes.
- You can also adjust the boom length for different wind strengths (more so than a normal windsurfer sail).
Duotone is designed by North so there’s plenty of wind and kite experience behind them. The foil wing also has battens which increase your wind range and reduce flutter.
Any foil will work with the Duotone. Depending on your experience, size and what you want to do, a good foil set up might be an Axis 75cm mast with an Axis 92 front wing. This will give you the most room for progression.
